Project to help new Russian speaking authors to get published in electronic formats. To donate : igg.me We want to set up a website to help authors self publish ebooks for the Russian speaking market, similar to Amazon Kindle direct publishing. At the moment new Russian authors have very little access to this type of service. In fact the idea came to us from Kindle. Kindle say their format does not support Russian language, but we managed to publish ourselves and a small group of Russian authors without a problem and had started making sales, when Kindle mailed us to say we had broken their terms by publishing in an unsupported language and they were going to delete our account. “What about, say, Russian for Dummies?” We asked. “That is full of `unsupported` language and you have been selling it for years.” Sadly they were adamant and removed all our titles. To date they haven’t paid us either. Don’t you just love Big Business? So we started searching for a company that would publish ebooks in Russian and found there really aren’t any. According to a recent article in the Telegraph, if you travel round Moscow especially on the metro, everywhere you can see people with eBook readers of some sort or another. Russians claim to be the most avid book readers in the world, but nobody yet seems to be targeting this vast potential market for ebooks.
